Defend The Deep
-
What we do know, however, is that it is home to an extraordinary diversity of life, much of which remains unseen by humankind. In the depths of the ocean, life moves at a slower pace – organisms live longer, mature later, and rely on scarce food resources – making any recovery from disruption a lengthy and uncertain process.
In this video, we hear from marine biologist Diva Amon, Oceano Azul Foundation CEO Tiago Pitta e Cunha, and ambassador Gina Guillén-Grillo, who explain why the deep ocean is not only a place of awe-inspiring mystery but also of vital importance. It plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecosystem functions and services that sustain all life on Earth, making our planet habitable.
This video was developed as part of a campaign by the Oceano Azul Foundation and Deep Sea Conservation Coalition, delivering a critical call to action: a moratorium on deep-sea mining.

“Far less that 1% of the deep ocean has ever been explored. About 0,001%.
We do not know what lives in the majoraty of our planet.”
Dr Diva Amon,
Marine Biologist
