Mar, amigo Mar!

  • In this video, we hear directly from the children and young people who take part in Wave by Wave sessions. They attempt to put into words the profound impact these experiences have on their lives – something difficult to articulate but undeniably transformative, with lasting repercussions for their development and future.

“The sea
gives me confidence.”

  • These statistics reflect a troubling reality, where many of these children and young people represent some of the most vulnerable groups in society. While there have been advancements in the care system, such as the growth of foster families, progress remains slow.

Crisis management, a recurring challenge within this population, is a central pillar of the intervention, helping to cultivate resilience and essential emotional skills for healthy development.

Wave by Wave serves as a beacon of hope, fostering positive relationships between young people and mental health and surf professionals. These sessions go beyond therapy – they create a transformative space where the beach becomes a foundation for building a safe environment based on respect, dialogue, and active listening.

This project was created by More Than Stories, in a pro bono collaboration with Wave by Wave, as part of the fundraising campaign marking seven years of this initiative.

“It’s the second family
I have here, at Wave.”
