Inclusive Mobility

  • In Braga, this vision is taking shape through the "Eu Já Passo Aqui" ("I Already Pass Here") project. The initiative, though ambitious, is not without its challenges. Like all public works, it brings temporary inconveniences to residents and requires phased implementation, beginning with key locations in the city and gradually expanding. Collaborating with organizations like ACAPO (Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Portugal) and APD (Portuguese Association of Disabled Persons) , Braga is addressing the unique needs of visually impaired and mobility-restricted individuals, setting an example for urban transformation.

“Accessibility
is not charity,
it's not a favour,
it's a right.

Filipe Azevedo,
Board member ACAPO Braga delegation

  • Ensuring accessibility is a collective responsibility. It’s about fighting for everyone’s right to move freely and safely through our cities, an essential step toward building a truly inclusive society.

Filipe Azevedo

”For many years, we thought that making a public space accessible would benefit blind people, wheelchair users.
And that, in my view, is a very narrow perspective
of what accessibility entails.“

This video was produced for Urban Mobility Explained (UMX), a youtube channel powered by EIT Urban Mobility, that features a series of short and easy-to-follow videos showcasing innovative practices in urban mobility across Europe and beyond.

We will all experience reduced mobility,
almost certainly,
when we grow older.”

Sustainable Production

IIn this production, we chose to travel by train from Lisbon to Braga instead of using a car. This decision was made possible by the small size of the team (only 2 people) and the simplification of the equipment, limiting it to the essentials. In Braga, most of the transportation was done on foot (as it is truly a 15-minute city), but we also used the bus and, on the day of filming, the car provided by the Municipality of Braga.
With this decision, we were able to reduce the environmental impact of the project by about 92%, compared to the option of traveling by car.
